Need A Dentist, Atlanta Ga?

dentist atlanta gaIf you’re like most respectable citizens in the Atlanta area, you understand the importance of a good smile. You value the health and appearance of your teeth, and you know that nothing opens a new world of opportunities faster than a bright, genuine grin. In many ways, your smile is one of your greatest attributes and you want to ensure it stays naturally beautiful for as long as possible. You understand that any chips, cracks or marks on your teeth are not only a source of embarrassment – but can also lead to further dental problems in the future.

However, like most Atlanta residents, you’re probably also extremely busy and taking even a few minutes out of your day to locate a cosmetic dentist seems impossible. From your duties at work and the needs of your family to countless chores, errands and the other demands of daily living, you’re lucky if you have time to get in a good meal or a full night’s sleep let alone scour the town for the best local cosmetic dentist Atlanta GA residents recommend.

Let’s face it – finding a good dentist can often seem a difficult and time consuming task. First, you have to ensure the professional you choose accepts your insurance policy and, depending on your plan, this can often weed out some of the best choices. Unfortunately there is no easy solution here, but it may be worthwhile to switch providers if it means better care for your teeth.

Next, you have to find someone close to your area. As you’re likely aware, the traffic in this city is nothing if not loathsome and driving just twenty miles can take hours. There are already too many setbacks in the day and missing your appointment thanks to a mid day fender bender on I-85 shouldn’t be one of them. It’s important to locate a dentist close to your own neighborhood to cut down on wasted time and to ensure close proximity in the event of a dental emergency.

Thirdly, and most importantly, you need to find a cosmetic dentist Atlanta GA trusts – a dentist with a track record and reputation to back up their claims. When looking for a medical or dental office in town, many people locate leads through a quick Google search or halfhearted flip through the Yellow Pages – but this can be a dangerous gamble. While there are plenty of great options for a local dentist, Atlanta GA is a big city and for every top quality professional, there are just as many unscrupulous and inexperienced dentists.

Luckily, the Atlanta Center for Cosmetic Dentistry fills all of the criteria of a great choice. We’re comfortably AACDlocated in North Atlanta – close enough to be inside the perimeter but still far enough from the center of the city to avoid the downtown traffic. Additionally, we are accredited by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry – which means we fill the necessary criteria to be considered among the best trained in the industry. Finally, unlike many local dentists, we hold true to our specialization and focus on the best possible cosmetic dentistry practices available to ensure you get the best results.

If you’re looking for a great dentist, Atlanta GA, take time to learn the facts before you make an appointment. Just as you wouldn’t trust your car maintenance to anyone holding a wrench, you should never trust your smile to a stranger just because they have a dental degree. Although it may require a few extra minutes out of your chaotic day, it’s worth it to find the right dentist. Your smile will thank you.

What's more important to you - the fastest option or the most reliable dentist in Atlanta?

Looking For A Painless Dentist?

painless dentistPain? Will it Hurt? That's the first thought many people have before going to the dentist.  Even more alarming for patients is the thought of enduring multiple visits for more extensive cosmetic procedures. It is because of this fear that people will often times delay that dreaded, but much needed visit.

However, going to the dentist does not have to be a frightening experience. Rather, you can rest assured knowing that you will feel little or no discomfort at all when you visit a painless dentist. With new sedation drugs, you no longer have to be concerned with anxiety or whether an anesthetic will work as intended. The types of oral sedation used in modern dentistry are more efficient and are used in many dental offices.

Minimal Sedation

  • With minimal sedation, you will be fully awake and experience no changes in your cardiovascular and ventilation functions. Although you will be able to respond and interact, you will have decreased anxiety. Therefore, you will be able to remain calm during the procedure, enabling the process to run smoothly for both you and the dentist.

Moderate Sedation

  • When given moderate oral sedation your consciousness level will be slightly decreased. However, your breathing and reflexes will still be under your control. Likewise, you will be able to verbally interact and respond appropriately to physical commands.

Oral Sedation

A common sedative dentists administered in previous years was diazepam. Unfortunately, this drug did not provide dentists with the confidence they needed to assure their patients that they would remain comfortable throughout the procedure. Fortunately, many dentists have adopted the use of new and improved sedatives. These drugs have many of the same benefits as diazepam, but are much more predictable and effective.

Modern Oral Sedation Benefits

  • First and foremost, oral sedation requires no needles or syringes. This is a welcome trait for patients, as needles are rather painful themselves. This is also ideal for those looking for a painless dentist.  Additionally, this method is typically less expensive than other techniques.

  • Modern oral sedation drugs have a proven track record for safety and can easily be reversed in case of an adverse reaction. Due to their safety, along with control and predictability, new and improved sedatives are often used in modern dentistry.

  • When administered, this oral sedation will lessen your anxiety in the office. This is a great benefit to you and your dentist alike. The procedure will be a calm experience for you and the dentist's work will be much easier to perform.

  • Due to the short two to three hour half life of modern sedatives, the dentist is capable of Aesthetic Dentistryadministering the appropriate amount of sedation necessary. Consequently, you will be able to recover from the sedative effects much quicker. This means that you will be able to handle tasks after the appointment without long lasting drowsiness, which could otherwise become a safety concern.

  • While in the office you will experience an increased level of drowsiness. You may also be happy to know that the most commonly used sedatives cause short term memory loss (during the procedure). Therefore, there is little chance that you will remember much of anything from the procedure, if anything at all.

  • Due to the positive effects of this sedative, you may be able to have an increased amount of work done in a single visit. This can be very helpful, especially for those with a busy schedule.

Oral Sedation for Children

  • The same comfort can be given to your children when visiting a painless dentist. There are sedative options available for both toddlers and adolescents which are safe and effective. In the majority of cases, the dentist will administer minimal sedation to your child with a half life of only an hour. This will provide ample time to complete the necessary dental work, while also shortening the recovery time. With minimal sedation, your child will be awake during the procedure and capable of responding both verbally and physically.

  • Although your child will be awake, they will experience increased drowsiness. This will drastically reduce their anxiety and their awareness of the procedure as it takes place. Therefore, they will be able to sit through the entire procedure calmly and in turn make the job much less complicated for the dentist. After the procedure is complete, the dentist will monitor your child to ensure that they recover without any problems.

You and your children can enjoy the benefits of having cosmetic procedures done at a painless dentist. Now that you know that you can have that beautiful smile you long for without all the pain, what are you waiting for? What cosmetic dentistry procedure do you want done?

Preventive Dentistry: Invest Now or Pay Dearly Later!

Preventive DentistryOnce every six months. That's how often you should visit your dentist. This may seem like a lot. However, in the long run you will be happy that you maintained these regular visits. Preventive dentistry is a vital element for keeping your teeth and gums healthy and to help you keep that beautiful smile.

Preventive Dentistry at Home

Preventive dentistry begins at home. In order to maintain healthy teeth and gums, regular brushing and flossing is a must. You should brush twice a day or after meals and floss once daily. Additionally, using mouth wash helps to protect against tooth decay and kills bacterial plaque, which can cause gingivitis and cavities.

When you brush it is important to use the proper technique. While brushing, maintain a 45 degree angle from the gum line to the tooth surface. Be sure to brush the outer surfaces, biting surfaces and inner surfaces, ensuring that no tooth is missed. After you are done brushing, rinse your mouth thoroughly with water.

For flossing, use an 18 inch piece of floss. With this length you will be able to remove plaque rather than simply spreading it around and you will have ample room to maneuver. Flossing should not be done in a sawing motion. Instead, gently slide the floss down below the gum line and then slide the floss up your tooth. Continue this up and down method until all teeth are flossed, making sure to go below the gum line for each tooth.

Following these steps at home is the first action needed for preventive dentistry. The next, very important step is visiting with your dentist on a regular basis.

Preventive Dentistry in the Office

Regardless of your age and situation, going to the dentist regularly is critical. However, there are some people who should have more frequent check ups. This includes people who are prone to excessive plaque build up, those with diabetes, a weak immune system, gum disease and smokers.

During your regular visits your dentist will clean your teeth. This process is used to remove built up tartar. Tartar is hardened plaque and once it has been formed on the teeth, you cannot remove it by simply using a toothbrush. Your dentist has ultrasonic tools and specific instruments for adequately removing the tartar buildup.

Tartar, when not removed can cause gingivitis. Gingivitis when left untreated, can lead to the loss of  connective tissue fibers. These tissue fibers connect the gums to the bone and attaches the gums to the teeth. This loss of tissue fiber is called periodontal disease. When a patient dental concernssuffers from Periodontitis they experience loss of the bone that surrounds the teeth, which can then lead to the loss of teeth.

At your appointment, visual and tactile methods will also be used by your dentist to examine your teeth, gums and soft tissue. During this evaluation, the dentist will be looking for any signs of gum disease or to diagnose periodontal. They may also measure the amount of bacteria in your mouth and if needed, prescribe medications to prevent diseases from occurring and address any dental concerns you may have.

Children

For children, prevention should start immediately after the onset of their first tooth. Your child's teeth should be brushed at least once daily with a toothbrush specially designed for children. To prevent decay, it is best to avoid feeding your child milk or formula prior to their bedtime.

Like adults, it is best for children to visit the dentist every six months, unless the dentist recommends otherwise. During one of your visits, the dentist may also suggest sealants for your child. These fill in the narrow crevasses on the tooth surface. By doing so, food particles will be unable to get caught in the teeth, which will prevent cavities from forming. This is a very quick and painless process and will last for several years.

Many dental diseases can by completely prevented with regular and proper oral care. Untreated dental problems can result in infection, tooth loss, as well as bone and nerve damage. These diseases can then erupt into much more serious health issues, which can effect other parts of your body. By investing in good oral hygiene and preventive dentistry now, you can save yourself from paying dearly later. To prevent dental problems from arising in your life, what daily dental routine have you developed?

Looking For A Mercury Free Dentist?

mercury freeDo you have old fillings that used mercury? What about loved ones and friends? If you or you know anyone who does, then it is time to get them out and replaced with something safer for your body's sake. Also, it is time to find dentists who are mercury free when running their practice to make sure you are staying safe and healthy.

Mercury is that silvery, liquid stuff that you see in old school glass thermometers. It is a naturally occurring element which is normally formed by rocks, volcanoes, and can be found in the soil, air, and water. While it is naturally occurring, it is still quite unhealthy for people--especially if you have fillings that used mercury. People can become sick with mercury poisoning, and even in some cases a person can die from heightened exposure.

Mercury fillings (also known as silver fillings) usually leak into the mouth and while there might not be enough to cause sickness or death, it is still alarming to have something in your mouth that includes mercury and other metals. But, they can be removed and replaced with something safer by a highly skilled dentist. A mercury free dentist will be able to remove the old fillings, but some dentists who are mercury free also provide only fillings which aren't as harmful or classified as a "higher risk" by dentists and associations.

If you're on the search for a mercury free dentist, then you're in luck! Finding a mercury free dentist is rather easy, since most offices now offer mercury free solutions and will replace any old fillings that you might have. Doing a simple online search for "mercury free dentists" can bring up tons of results, but, how do you filter out the right ones? If you can collect a short list of results, ask these questions:

  • Ask the dentist if your old fillings can be replaced, and what kind of material they will be using. Remember to ask about the material if you are concerned, any experienced dentist can give you the necessary information about it to make you feel more at ease.

  • If you have an allergic reaction to mercury, ask about your options and if they can accommodate you accordingly. This is very important!

  • If your nursing, pregnant, or have a child who needs a filling, ask about the other options beyond a silver filling. It is considered a more at-risk procedure if you are pregnant, nursing, or if the filling is being done on a young child.

  • Ask if the office is both mercury free and mercury safe, or at least provide one of these things.

Of course, the scare of mercurMercury Free Dentisty fillings isn't the only reason to replace them. They can also be unsightly for some people, who would prefer to have fillings (which are usually porcelain or a white composite of sorts) that match their teeth better and don't have to worry about the attention that a metal filling can bring. The process is easy for a dentist so don't hesitate to ask for options when it comes to your beautiful smile!

Mercury free dentists and dentist offices are becoming even more common in today's age, especially now that there are other options for fillings and older fillings can be easily replaced and detoxify. In fact, you can find entire associations of dentists who refuse to use mercury anymore and promote a safe (and sometimes even holistic) office.

The Atlanta Center for Cosmetic Dentistry happens to have mercury-free alternatives for anyone looking. We provide only the best care for our patients,  so don't hesitate to ask or make an appointment to have any mercury removed from your mouth and replaced with tooth-colored composites.

Did you know about the problems from mercury? What about finding a mercury free dentist? Tell us about your mercury-free dentist experiences in the comments below.

What Does Cosmetic Dentistry Cost?

cosmetic dentistry costWhen it comes to buying a new car, there are several factors that you might find important. Firstly, if you have a family or care about insurance costs, you’re likely interested in the safety rating. You want a car that can perform well, but will protect you and your precious cargo if you were to encounter an accident on the dangerous Atlanta expressways. You likely also want something that is comfortable for those long afternoon commutes or sporadic road trips with family and friends. You may also look for a car that has a great stereo system, Bluetooth connectivity and perhaps a television for your backseat passengers. When shopping for a new car, you will most certainly consider price – but you understand that price is relative to performance and quality.

In many ways, locating a cosmetic dentist is much like shopping for a new car. Although your dental work probably won’t cost even half of what you paid for your newest automobile, it’s still an extremely important investment and when considering the price you should always also consider the quality of the work and experience of the dentist in question. All too often, when people begin are in need of aesthetic dental work, their first question is “What does cosmetic dentistry cost?” While this is a valid and important concern, the answer depends on various factors.

For example, imagine you’re looking for a new suit for work. On the one hand you have a discount suit shop that sells all types and styles of suits for extremely low prices. On the other hand, you have an extremely qualified and experienced tailor who makes custom fit suits out the finest and most durable fabrics – but his suits are much more expensive. Knowing that the quality of the discounted suits is extremely sub par and will likely only last a few months, wouldn’t the custom made suit seem like a much smarter investment? Sometimes the things that are more expensive are such for a reason – because they are worth it. Basing your decision solely on the cost of cosmetic dentistry rather than the reputation and experience of the dentist can be extremely detrimental.

Another thing to consider when you’re comparing cosmetic dentistry cost among your options is the dentist’s credentials. You should only choose a dentist who is accredited by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD). These dentists not only adhere to one of the strictest codes of ethics in the industry, but they also received substantial and in-depth training. Many dentists attempt to fool their patients by boasting that they are members of the AACD, but they are likely only members and not accredited professionals.beautiful smile

Remember that cosmetic dentistry cost varies depending on the scope and scale of the procedures you need completed. A patient who only needs a crown replaced will be paying much less than someone who needs a much more complex procedure – such as an implant. Some procedures can be completed in just one visit while others take multiple visits to finish.

Finally, keep in mind that there are many other factors that can affect cosmetic dentistry cost. Your insurance, the qualifications of staff members and the materials used by the dentist can all play into the final cost. When deciding on a budget for your cosmetic dental work, instead of asking “what does cosmetic dentistry cost?” – a much more relevant question might be “How much is a beautiful smile worth?” The answer varies depending on the patient, but it’s important to remember that you get what you pay for. Here at the Atlanta Center for Cosmetic Dentistry we make sure that you get the smile you want for a fair price that’s worth every dime.

So, what is a beautiful smile worth to you?

Cosmetic Dental Surgery Comfortable And Easy With A Credentialled Dentist

AACD LogoWhen most people think of a dentist visit (especially for surgery), they usually cringe at the thought because of how uncomfortable--and even downright painful--it can be. However, dentist visits for cosmetic surgery shouldn't have to be uncomfortable and make you dread your appointment, especially when you are going to see a credentialed dentist.

Cosmetic dental surgery is a pretty big deal, especially if you've never had to go see a dentist for extensive surgery before. It is perfectly reasonable to be nervous, scared, and even feel a little uncomfortable about the whole situation. But, you shouldn't have to worry about how great your dentist's credentials are or if they have done such a surgery before. When you make an appointment with the Atlanta Center for Cosmetic Dentistry, you don't have to worry about whether or not the dentist has the necessary credentials.

Why are credentials so important when it comes to cosmetic dental surgery? Well, much like other medical doctors, there are all sorts of different routes a dentist can take--some of them open their own offices and deal with stuff like teeth cleaning or braces, while others go into surgery work. Every single route needs specialized attention and training, and with that comes credentials.

What else can you expect from a dentist with the right credentials? Take a look:

  • The cosmetic dentist will be able to provide a step-by-step guide on what exactly is going on with your teeth and your surgery. Instead of just sitting there with a numbed up mouth, you'll know what is going on and don't have to worry about any "whoops" moments.

  • A dentist with the right credentials is able to keep you comfortable about the entire surgery and advise you beforehand about the entire thing. Like the previous bullet point, you can know the ins and outs of your entire surgery before you even get in the dentist's chair for it!

  • Dentists who work for the Atlanta Center for Cosmetic Dentistry also have a pleasant space that has a real southern hospitality and charm to it--you'll be accommodated to your likes to make your visit easy, smooth, and pleasant.

  • Also, dentists who work for the Atlanta Center for Cosmetic Dentistry must be properly licensed and have all of the right credentials. We want you to be in the right hands!

Essentially, you should feel comfortable the entire time. From the consultation of the surgery all the way to after the surgery and during your recovery time. If you don't feel at ease with getting cosmetic dental surgery or your dentist doing the surgery, then give yourself some time to think it over. Some questions you may want to ask yourself:Cosmetic Dental Surgery

  • Will this dentist be there the entire surgery, even afterward?

  • How well can the dentist accommodate me?

  • How experienced is the dentist? How many times has he or she done this surgery?

If you find the dentist you have chosen for the cosmetic surgery fits the criteria of these questions and are able to make you feel completely comfortable and in the lap of luxury, then you have absolutely nothing to worry about! A credentialed dentist will be able help you throughout the entire process and won't mysterious vanish after you're done with your surgery. Also, if you choose the Atlanta Center for Cosmetic Dentistry, you'll be sitting pretty in a comfortable atmosphere that rivals the Ritz Carlton!

Whether it's a smaller operation or bigger surgery, do your research when it comes to finding the right credentialed dentist for you. Credentialed dentists who do cosmetic dental surgery on a daily basis are here to help you, especially at the Atlanta Center for Cosmetic Dentistry. Don't skimp out simply because of price or scheduling differences, get only the best for your smile--teeth are pretty important, after all!

What are some other tips someone looking for a credentialed dentist should look into?

How Is A Porcelain Veneer Made?

Porcelain VeneerNot everyone's teeth develop to fit their ideal tooth shape and position. For others, an injury may occur which results in unwanted changes in their teeth and smile appearance. Porcelain veneers are often an excellent choice for altering your tooth shape, position, size and/or color to give you the look you desire.

Porcelain veneers are made of several layers of thin, durable pieces of ceramic that can be permanently bonded to your natural tooth.  They are highly resilient to damage and are stain resistant.

Creating a porcelain veneer is a multiple step process and it involves two separate appointments with your dentist. The first appointment is to shape the teeth and take the impressions needed to form the veneer. On your second visit, the veneer will be applied to your tooth. The entire process typically takes one to two months.

What to Expect on Your First Visit

Trimming the Tooth

  • In order to properly attach the porcelain veneer to your tooth, a small part of enamel must be trimmed. This will enable the veneer to fit comfortably inside your mouth and create an even, natural appearance. The amount of enamel removed is usually between .5 to .7 millimeters. Depending on your situation, your dentist will decide if a local anesthetic needs to be applied prior to the trimming process.

Taking an Impression of the Tooth

  • To ensure an accurate fit, the porcelain veneer must be formed to match the new trimmed shape of your tooth. To do so, your dentist will take an impression of your tooth by creating a mold of it using impression putty.
  • For a natural look, the porcelain must be the same shade as your natural tooth. Therefore, during this process your dentist will also take note of the current shade of your tooth, so the veneer can be fabricated to match.

What to Expect on Your Second Visit

Evaluation of Veneer

  • Prior to bonding the veneer onto your tooth, the dentist will evaluate the veneer to make sure that it is the proper shape and size. To do this, they will place the veneer over your tooth and compare the dimensions. If any trimming is required, the dentist will remove the veneer and trim it until it is the correct fit.
  • Although the color of porcelain was selected during the impression phase, the actual color may slightly differ when applied to your actual tooth. Fortunately, the veneer is translucent and therefore the dentist can alter the color of the bonding cement to obtain a closer match.
  • After the color of cement has been chosen, your dentist will apply a temporary paste with the same color, into the veneer. This veneer will then be placed onto your tooth so the dentist can ensure that the color is indeed a correct match. If it is not, the dentist will continue to make changes in the color until it is correct.
  • veneersThis process may seem lengthy, but it is crucial. Once the veneer is attached to the tooth it becomes permanent and should not be removed, unless completely necessary. Therefore, the time required to find and make the perfect fit is well worth it.

Bonding the Veneer onto the Tooth

  • Now that the veneer is the correct size and the color matches the surrounding teeth, it is ready to be bonded to your tooth. To prepare for this, the veneer and your tooth will both be cleaned.
  • To ensure that the veneer bonds securely to your tooth, the enamel will first be etched using an acid etching gel. The roughness caused by this process will allow the cement to snugly bond to your tooth.
  • Next the cement will be applied onto the veneer and the dentist will position it onto your tooth. When it is positioned correctly, the dentist will use a specially designed light which shines through the veneer and into the cement. The light will cause the cement to cure within moments.
  • Once the porcelain veneer has been securely bonded to your tooth there may be excess cement on the edges which your dentist will trim off. At this point the dentist will also examine the veneer to ensure it's proper fit and will trim and correct the shape if needed.

Porcelain veneers will last 7-20 years, as they may get chipped or come off over time. Also, as you age the tooth and surrounding gum tissue will change and therefore the veneers may have to be replaced or altered.

Whether you are looking to correct the color or shape of your teeth or they have been fractured, porcelain veneers may be the ideal choice for you. When you change your smile, you change your life. As you consider working on getting your beautiful smile, what it your biggest concern?
